Backyard Maple Sugaring Workshop – March 10

February 14, 2013

On Sunday, March 10 from 1 to 4pm, learn how to make your own local, all-natural, seasonal sweetener in your own backyard!  With basic, inexpensive equipment and a little bit of know-how, you can make your own maple syrup from sugar maple trees.

During this workshop, our farmer, Creek Iversen, will teach how to:

  • Identify and select sugar maple trees
  • Tap the trees
  • Set up buckets for sap
  • Construct a simple outdoor evaporator (sap boiler)
  • Finish and jar syrup
  • Locate and purchase supplies

We’ll end the workshop with a maple snack and songs, stories, and lore around the evaporator.  This workshop is mostly outdoors, so please wear appropriate clothing and check our website for updates if the weather is questionable.
